Near-Real-Time Data Reporting
The idea of near-real-time (NRT) data reporting is similar to regular data reporting and does not require additional hardware. The station participating in the NRT project has to set up an automatic routine for creating hourly data files of the participating instrument(s). The files have to have EBAS NASA-Ames format and have to begin and end at the turn of the hour. In contrast to regular data reporting, the data files do not have data level 2 (hourly averages including atmospheric variability, processed data, quality-assured by human eye), but data level 0 (annotated raw data, parameters as provided by instrument, "native" time resolution). Examples of the level 0 format for the supported instruments will appear on this page shortly.
The automatic routine at the station also needs to include an automatic hourly upload of the data files to WDCA by FTP. Each station receives its own upload account, where the location and account details are shared in the process of setting up the NRT stream. The uploaded data are processed and published in the EBAS database under the "GAW-WDCA_NRT" project (currently access restricted). A presentation containing more details on the whole NRT data collection and dissemination system may be downloaded.
